Puebla, Pue. The Business Coordinating Council (CCE) in Puebla endorses the proposal to increase water rates between 4 and 7.6%, in exchange for providing a good service and avoiding shortage problems in the future.
Ignacio Alarcón Rodríguez Pacheco, president of the organization in the entity, commented that the proposal of the System Operator of the Potable Water and Sewage Services of Puebla (Soapap), which he presented before the state Congress, has to be thoroughly analyzed by legislators.
He considered that in the face of price escalation due to inflation in products, it is also necessary for the Agua de Puebla service concession company to improve the infrastructure based on the rates that are updated.
He indicated that complaints about the service will not be lacking, but the state government must demand that there be a response to improve it, because that was the purpose of concessioning the supply to the company.
The leader considered that the Private Initiative will give a vote of confidence to the decision of the state authorities to increase rates, but that the increase is reflected in improving the infrastructure to provide more water to the citizens of the poorest areas.
He reiterated that the water service must continue to be concessioned, since the agency Soapap It does not have the financial capacity to take charge, being in the red due to the debt it has for loans.
He recognized that any increase impacts industry and commerce, but businessmen understand that it will be gradual and in exchange for improvements.
The president of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), Héctor Sánchez Morales, said that it is time to make adjustments to the service rate after four years without changes, which implies replacing distribution networks.
He indicated that the increase could not be postponed, hoping that there would be no dissent from the citizens and that it would not be taken as a political banner with a view to the elections.
