The government of the Republic brought a proposal to the dialogue table in the province of Veraguas to freeze the price of fuel at $4.25, this for private cars that are not luxury, however, the groups that are negotiating rejected the offer.
Armando Espinoza, from the Association of Independent Teachers, said that they are requesting that a $3 proposal be made, since they assure that there is enough money in the country to subsidize this price and thus lighten the cost of the Panamanian’s pocket.
He said that his proposal, of $3, was made for the entire country and all sectors, but the government divided its proposal into sectors, excluding some Panamanians from the possible benefit.
He said that the government representatives got up from the table to analyze a counterproposal, so they hope that in an hour the government will return to the dialogue table and bring with it a proposal closer to the $3 as requested by the groups.
The unions insist that the protests will not cease until a lower fuel price is achieved, in addition to an answer regarding the high cost of the basic basket and medicines.
