The Cuban state power company Unión Eléctrica (UNE) forecasts an electricity generation deficit of 11% for this Monday, after a new unspecified fault that occurred this Sunday at 5:17 in the afternoon.
According to a statement from the electricity company, although the problem was resolved in the early hours of this Monday, the service “was affected again from 5:12 am due to a lack of generation capacity.”
As of today, there are eight units that are out of service due to breakdowns in five plants. Added to this is the departure of another two for maintenance, one at the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes thermoelectric plant and another at Lidio Ramón Pérez, known as Felton, which on Friday suffered a serious fire which has part of the plant in check.
“There are already concrete actions to reactivate that unit as quickly as possible. We are not kidding ourselves, the damage is enormous; the fire affected the columns of the boilers, and the columns are practically the basis of any equipment. But we have the equipment of the other areas” said Osmel Maturell Reyes, general director of the plant, to the newspaper workers this Sunday.
The note, titled In the Felton there is no nest of discouragement, gave encouragement to employees trying to repair the damage caused by pulling epic. “Yes! Hearts are shaken by the adversity that in a short time turned into flames and soot the effort of many hands that for 129 days worked on the capitalization of the aforementioned unit, which was very close to finally providing energy to the country” , emphasizes the text.
The words of the director, who assured that the causes of the incident are being investigated, were reinforced by those of Idalmis Serrano Gómez, general secretary of the Cuban Workers Central in Holguín, who did not hesitate to quote the late leader of the Revolution.

“It gives us great satisfaction that the workers have such confidence and commitment. We are used to turning setbacks into victories, as our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz taught us, and it will be no different here,” he said.
Voluntarism aside, the damage is imposed and the Island begins the day of 11J with the recognition that there will be a lack of more light than usual. The UNE placed the maximum availability at 2,552 megawatts, 298 of deficit.

At the end of May, Miguel Díaz-Canel stated that the problems with electricity generation were going to be solved before the end of June, something that never happened, quite the contrary, since the situation has slowly worsened. In mid-June, the president himself, with a projected graph, explained to the country that it would have to wait at the end of July to stabilize the situation.
At that time, it had the incorporation of Felton, whose unit 1 had been working for months without maintenance and, when it was going to pass it, a fault was detected in unit 2 that had to start replacing it. This caused a new delay that worried the authorities, due to the large electricity generation of this plant, but they hoped that by the end of this month the problems would be resolved. Now, the fire comes to put one more obstacle.
