Electoral political prisoners add up to a month of total incommunicado detention

Relatives of Miguel Mendoza and Tamara Dávila denounce a month of solitary confinement with the political prisoners, who are being held in the cells of the Directorate of Judicial Assistance, known as “El Nuevo Chipote.” They demand that they be allowed to communicate and that their children can have contact with them.

Mendoza’s relatives denounce that this situation implies “psychological torture. Today marks one month since the last visit; His health status is unknown. He also completes 385 days of being kidnapped in El Chipote. We demand respect for human rights and his freedom, he is innocent! », They expressed through their social networks.

The sports journalist served a year in detention on June 23 without being able to see his little daughter. “A year has the girl without being able to listen to him, more than because of the videos published by Miguel (before his arrest), but he has not had a minimum communication, not a phone call,” denounced his wife Margin Pozo.

“The conditions continue to be inhumane, the food is not polite or ideal for a chronic patient like him. They do not allow you to read. A year without being able to read anything, not even the Bible is allowed; neither is the entry of a quilt to protect oneself from the cold…». added his life partner.

For her part, Josefina Vijil denounces that Dávila has served 30 days since the last visit. “We have not heard from our relatives since that day. We demand visits and that their daughters and sons be able to visit them. My 6-year-old granddaughter needs and has the right to see her mother », refers Vijil through a tweet.

Dávila is a feminist psychologist who has been actively involved in protest and solidarity movements since 2018. Over the last three years she has been detained on several occasions, beaten, threatened and kept in constant harassment by police forces or parastatals.

She was arbitrarily detained on June 12, 2021, when police officers at the service of the Ortega-Murillo tyranny raided her home without a court order. Since then, she has been in prison and has only received eight visits in more than a year of confinement in which she has not been able to communicate with her daughter.

Dávila is accused of the alleged crime of “undermining national integrity” and “treason against the country” under Law 1050, Law of Sovereignty, a legal tool created by the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo to persecute the opposition and inhibit them to positions of popular election.
