The social movement called Crowd held a vigil in front of the bust of the Mirabal Sisters, located on the avenue that bears the name of the Butterflies in Santiago, demanding that the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM) apply the “electoral campaign formula” and lower fuel prices.
Ramón Estrella (Monchy), a spokesman for the organization, criticized that after more than a year in office, Minister Víctor -Ito- Bisonó has not applied significant reductions in fuel prices.
The activist asked the authorities to eliminate the tax on liquefied petroleum gas, as he assures, happens in much of the world.
He also requested to investigate the corruption that, according to the complaint, existed in the Dominican Oil Refinery (Refidomsa) in the previous government.
The group has been holding this demonstration for seven consecutive weeks, described as “Red Friday for the fuel cut.”
“We will continue every Friday in the streets demanding the reduction in fuel prices until the government understands that it can find another way to find money without affecting the population,” said Estrella.
He warned, on behalf of the movement, that they will eradicate the fight by taking over the main squares of the Dominican Republic if they do not apply reductions in fuel prices.
