The Pope Francisco invited the president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, so that you can visit the Vatican, as reported this Friday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oscar Maúrtua.
“In this sacrosanct month of December, I have conveyed to the Holy Father the special greeting of the Head of State, Pedro Castillo, to whom Pope Francis has also extended the warmest invitation to have him visit the Vatican soon”Maúrtua told the Peruvian media.
The chancellor participated in a special audience with the pope, which was attended by the authorities and others who participated in the elaboration of a Christmas nativity scene with motifs from the Peruvian Andean town of Choppca that is exhibited in the Plaza de San Pedro.
Francisco greeted the Peruvian delegation from Huancavelica, the department in which Chopcca is located, as well as Bishop Carlos Salcedo Ojeda and the minister Oscar Maúrtua.
The pontiff stressed that “The characters of the nativity scene, made with materials and clothes typical of those territories, represent the peoples of the Andes and symbolize the universal call to salvation”.
Maúrtua stressed, for his part, that this exhibition is held in the year of the bicentennial of the independence of Peru and said that it is a sample of the “vitality” that the Peruvian nation has.
He added that Peru “He has faith in his reality and to attend to his needs, especially in the deep Peru, and a very manifest democratic vocation”.
The Vatican inaugurated the monumental Nativity scene inspired by Chopcca culture, which will shine throughout the Christmas in the heart of San Pedro Square to show the world the beauty of Andean crafts.
Every year the Plaza de San Pedro, in front of the basilica, exhibits a Portal de Belén during the festivities and on this occasion one from South America was chosen for the first time, specifically from that Peruvian region.
The installation has been carried out by Peruvian artisans Gady Galvez, Rafael Gutiérrez, Carlos Madge, Elvis Gálvez and Manuel Breña, using materials such as fiberglass and resin, with a metal structure and foam filled so that the pieces are lightweight.
