The culture Ministry (Mincul) urged not to criminalize or stigmatize the peasant patrols after one of these groups kidnapped journalists from Cuarto Poder on July 6 in the district of Chadín, Cajamarca.
Through a statement, the portfolio also urged citizens to build an intercultural dialogue, which can guarantee respect among all Peruvians.
“We urge public opinion to avoid any type of criminalization and/or stigmatization of the peasant patrols.and we call on all citizens to continue building intercultural dialogue that guarantees respect among all Peruvians.”, pointed out the institution led by Alejandro Salas.
In the same pronouncement, the Mincul pointed out that article 149 of the Constitution empowers the authorities of the peasant and native communities to exercise jurisdictional functions in their territorial scope.
“…as long as they do not violate the fundamental rights of the person; position that is reaffirmed in articles 8, 9, 10 and 12 of Convention 169 of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and is reflected in Law 27908 Law of Peasant Rounds”he added.
Likewise, he maintained that the Government respects the self-determination exercised in its territory by all indigenous and native peoples, in addition to peasant and urban patrols throughout the country. Added to this, they asked the corresponding authorities to investigate the kidnapping of reporters in Cajamarca.
“In order to guarantee unrestricted respect for the fundamental rights of people, the rule of law and freedom of expression, We request the competent authorities to carry out objective investigations that lead to the clarification of the events that occurred in Chadín-Cajamarca.following the procedures established by law and international treaties”, stated the Ministry of Culture.
