President Alberto Fernández reiterated this Saturday the need to “gradually lower the fiscal deficit” and announced that this Sunday he will meet with the Minister of Economy, Silvina Batakis, to analyze measures to raise prices.
“On Friday I spoke with Silvina and we arranged to see each other on Sunday, we are going to see what first measures we are going to take to be able to address this issue that worries us a lot,” Fernández anticipated from Tucumán.
In reference to the resignation of former Economy Minister Martín Guzmán, the President stated that “he knows what I think about how he did it; there are issues of institutional responsibility that recommended that it should have happened otherwise; now the minister is called Batakis and we have to talk about her”he underlined.

The head of state was in that province on the occasion of his participation in the central act for the 206th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in the Historic House, where he denounced a “fierce onslaught” of concentrated groups that “want to cause a devaluation.”
Later, in statements to channel C5N, Fernández also considered that “if I want to end the fiscal deficit in 24 hours, I am going to generate chaos.”
“We seek to gradually lower it,” he said, while stating that this goal “is going to take time” like inflation.
In this regard, he remarked that “the problem of inflation was unleashed throughout the world; we suffer more because 20 years ago we had a two-digit inflationary cycle”.
Therefore, he explained that “Argentina has a kind of structural inflation and part of a higher floor.”
“If we add to that the indebtedness that Mauricio Macri contracted at the time, it complicates Argentine development conditions much more because it prevents us from accumulating reserves and that also affects prices; the scenario is very complex,” Fernández said.

He also stressed that “there are two issues in the world that have skyrocketed, energy and food,” which, he considered, “is a huge problem.”
“With Silvina we are working on that; for me it is an issue to be able to lower inflation in a scenario that is not favorable to us because the world is not favorable for Argentina in this context”, analyzed Fernández.
In another order, he affirmed that “there is a part of Argentina that is working well, which has to do with development, with production, with the generation of work.”
“When one looks at the results of May, one realizes that there are activities that have grown 54% in relation to the same month of the previous year, but all are at an average of 20%,” he stressed.
The president affirmed that “the salary in real terms has also recovered, but three points more or less, but it comes from a fall of 20 points in the Macri years.”
“So, that recovery is not felt and I am very aware of that; we have to work on ordering public accounts, little by little, not applying the orthodoxy that some propose because that orthodoxy ends up starving people”, he completed.
Earlier, from the Historic House of Tucumán, Fernández denounced that in the last week he had endured “a public and ferocious attack by concentrated and powerful groups who want to keep all the income and cause a devaluation, and who seek to generate discouragement and uncertainty.”
Likewise, condemned “the false news in social networks that are used as destabilizing instruments”and added: “They are going to collide with my firm decision to continue working for the country.”

“The same ones who sow discouragement are the ones who put us in debt”, asserted the head of the Casa Rosada, and called on Argentines to “forge every day the unity that will take us forward.”
Along these lines, Fernández reaffirmed his commitment “to continue recovering wages” and called on Argentines “to work to eradicate extreme poverty and rebuild the most egalitarian country we had.”
