The government of President-elect Gustavo Petro has announced an ambitious legislative agenda that will be advanced by Congress from next July 20. Roy Barreras, who could occupy the presidency of the Senate, pointed out that in order to process this legislative package more efficiently, they could resemble a ‘fast track’, like the one used during the approval of the peace agreement.
Faced with this proposal that has permeated public opinion, Barreras told RCN Mundowho are “studying a legal mechanism, which is not the ‘fast track’ that we use in the construction of the institutionality of peace, because that requires a constitutional reform, but under the strict framework of the Constitution of 91 and Law 5, it can be more efficient, instead of working two days a week , you can work four”.

To the above, who would occupy the presidency of Congress, added that “parallel sessions can be held in all the constitutional commissions, through the message of urgency, hold joint sessions of the economic commissions and the plenary sessions of the Senate and House can also be scheduled synchronously, to save time, efficiency is needed. It is enough to work twice as hard and we will have more time and results”.
Senator-elect Barreras stressed that “Colombians demand efficiency and transparency from the new Congress, that we comply with the popular mandate for change, and that change is fundamental reforms that guarantee the future of young people, justice for women heads of household , the reactivation of the countryside, these reforms require resources, such as a tax reform”.
