MIAMI, United States. — A total of 98 irregular migrants were returned this Friday to Cuba from Mexico and the United States, reported the state agency Latin Press.
According to the official media report, 24 Cubans arrived on the island from Mexico, while another 74 were returned by sea in a United States Coast Guard vessel.
The note indicates that the 24 Cuban citizens from Mexico “received the care provided for in the national protocols for this type of event.”
The Cubans repatriated by the US Coast Guard had previously been intercepted trying to arrive illegally in the northern country.
The information adds that the two migrant return operations were carried out in compliance with the migratory agreements between Cuba and both countries.
Latin Press highlights that the return of the 24 Cubans from Mexico was the 26th operation of this type carried out in the last two years, a period in which 1,363 people have been returned to the island.
In the case of the United States, some 2,388 Cuban migrants have been repatriated from October 2021 to date.
The Cuban authorities specified that so far this year there have been 92 return operations for irregular migrants from the United States, Mexico, the Bahamas and Grand Cayman, in which 4,013 citizens have been repatriated.
“The Cuban government reiterates its commitment to regular, safe and orderly migration and insists on the danger and life-threatening conditions that such movements represent, where travelers are at the expense of situations of kidnapping, rape, extortion and other setbacks,” marks the publication of Latin Press.
