The US imposes visa restrictions on 28 officials of the Cuban regime

MIAMI, United States. — The United States government imposed this Saturday visa restrictions on 28 officials of the Cuban regime involved in the repression of the protesters of the July 11, 2021 (J11).

Although the note does not specify the names of the officials designated by Washington, it does indicate that they are high-ranking members of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and directors of the propaganda apparatus of the Castro dictatorship.

“Instead of guaranteeing the security of the Cuban people and respect for their freedoms of expression and peaceful assembly, these officials allowed or facilitated violent and unjust arrests, sham trials, and decades-long prison sentences for hundreds of protesters,” the statement said. signed by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The State Department highlights that the sanctions respond “to the actions of Cuban government officials that limit the enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms of Cubans.”

“This action builds on previous efforts to promote accountability for Cuban officials who enable their government’s attacks on democracy and human rights, including the Department’s three rounds of visa restrictions since November 2021 under Presidential Proclamation 5377. , as well as the four rounds of Treasury Department financial sanctions designations since July 2021 under Executive Order 13818.”

The measure also reinforces “the commitment of the United States government to support greater freedom and economic opportunities for the Cuban people.”

The regime’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, assured that the new sanctions of the US government against the 28 officials of the Island violate international law and the Charter of the United Nations Organization (UN).

“Given the failure of the attempt to provoke a popular uprising in Cuba in 2021, the US government and its Secretary of State are now seeking to discredit the popular triumph in the face of imperialist aggression. Its repeated coercive measures are acts that violate International Law and the UN Charter,” the Cuban foreign minister wrote in Twitter.
