Díaz-Canel reacts to the Felton fire: “Cuba knows how to turn setbacks into victory”

MIAMI, United States. — Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez reacted today to the fire this Friday in block number two of the Lidio Ramón Cabrera Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), in Felton, in the province of Holguín.

“To the heroes of Felton 2: Don’t be discouraged. We must continue to insist, without discouragement. The war is about to be won and the effort needs enthusiasm to ignite”, the president wrote in his Twitter account. Twitter.

Although the fire was controlled with no deaths or injuries reported in the accident area, it caused serious damage to that unit, one of the units that contributes the most capacity to the National Electric System (SEN).

“I heard that some cried seeing the fire gobble up so much effort, but everyone ran to help put it out. Such a people is destined to overcome all challenges. Cuba knows how to turn setbacks into victory,” added the president.

The fire in block two of the CTE Lidio Ramón Cabrera occurred shortly after two in the afternoon, while the turbine of that unit was being shot as part of the tests prior to its full commissioning.

As reported to the Cuban News Agency (ACN) the general director of the thermoelectric plant, Osmel Maturel Reyes, during the operation there was a leak in one of the boiler tubes, through which national crude circulated.

The manager explained that although the boiler was off, its high temperatures caused a fire that caused “considerable damage.”

For several months, block number 2 of the CTE Lidio Ramón Pérez was in the process of equipment testing and completion of systems and the assembly of the turbine to get the unit into operation.
