LGIPE orders destruction of electoral material
Electoral counselor Carla Astrid Humphrey Jordán recalled that the destruction of electoral documentation used in federal electoral processes is ordered in articles 216 and 318 of the General Law of Electoral Institutions and Procedures (LGIPE).
Thus, it is provided that said law and the local electoral laws will be the ones that determine the characteristics of the documentation and electoral materials, and must establish two basic points:
Electoral documents and materials must be prepared using raw materials that can be recycled, once their destruction is carried out and said destruction must be carried out using methods that protect the environment, as approved by the respective General or local Council.
In addition, the INE election regulations establish the rules for carrying out the destruction, as well as the activities that must be carried out before, during and after.
Article 434, mandates the General Council to approve the destruction of electoral documentation, once the corresponding electoral process has concluded and in this case it was agreed to recycle the paper and deliver it to Conaliteg.
