fifty firefighters managed to contain in the last hours a large fire that broke out this friday night in the reserve of the Buenos Aires coastal town of Mar Chiquitain an area near the former Base of the Center for Experimentation and Launch of Self-Propelled Projectiles (Celpa), community sources reported.
The incident prompted the intervention of more than 50 firefighters from nine barracks in the towns of Mar Chiquita, Santa Clara del Mar, Mar Azul, Miramar, Mechongué, Mar del Plata, Pinamar, Villa Gesell and Pirán, who worked all night to contain the fire.
“The fire broke out after 8:00 p.m. in an area located a few meters from the former Base of the Center for Experimentation and Launch of Self-Propelled Projectiles (Celpa)”, the Secretary of Security of Mar Chiquita, Javier Navarro, told Télam.
The official explained that now the fire “is controlled and contained, while firefighters continue to work on the spot to extinguish it” and specified that affected “about 6 kilometers”.
“In that sector of the reserve there is a lot of grass and foxtail, so the fire quickly catches on,” he added.
Navarro pointed out that Forest Fire personnel also work at the site, while employees of the Mar Chiquita Security Secretariat collaborate with hydration and assistance to firefighters.
On the other hand, he pointed out that due to the difficult access to the source of the fire “You can only enter in 4×4 trucks”.
“At this time it is drizzling in the area, so we hope that the fire that took us by surprise will be completely extinguished very soon, especially at this time of year,” he concluded.
