On a day like today in 2007, an absolute phenomenon occurred in Buenos Aires: it was snowing again. This event had previously occurred in 1918. Thus, after 89 years, around 2:00 p.m. on July 9, the City of Buenos Aires and the suburbs saw the first snowflakes.
The meteorological phenomenon increased with the passing of the hours and, certainly, the streets were filled with onlookers who did not want to be left out of the big moment. For the early hours of the morning, the province of Buenos Aires already had a clear white mantle.
Despite the sub-zero temperatures, several cities were filled with witnesses who did not want to waste the chance to experience the meteorological phenomenon up close. Many of them were even present at the obeliskwhere snow fights and different dolls were seen.
snowfall across the country
Parallel to the snowfall in Buenos Aires, other provinces of the country shared the same phenomenon. This was announced by a spokesman for the National Meteorological Service (SMN): “This morning heavy snowfalls are taking place in the west of the province of Buenos Aires and in the provinces of Córdoba, San Luis and Mendoza.”
Another of the provinces where the white blanket of snow was present was in the province of La Rioja. After 31 years, the event occurred again during the early hours of July 9, 2007. Likewise, it should be noted that in San Luis, the snowfall registered up to 30 centimeters.
As for the province of Córdoba, this phenomenon had not been recorded since 1975. However, the snow also presented difficulties in its different cities, an example of which was the delay experienced by the Rio Cuarto terminal. There, several passengers were delayed waiting for better weather conditions.
