According to figures provided by the National Directorate of Migration, which depends on the Ministry of the Interior (MI), from Friday the 1st to Thursday the 7th, the number of 81,886 people entered the country. The dates coincide with the beginning of the vacations for middle school students (began last Monday 4). The data was provided by said department this Friday 8.
Of that number, 57,673 are Uruguayans, 12,884 Argentines, and 5,488 Brazilians. The main point of entry was the department of Paysandú (with 23,429 visitors), followed by Salto, Colonia and Fray Bentos and the Carrasco International Airport in Montevideo.
In the same period of time, 94,011 people left the national territory. From that number, it follows that 73,826 are Uruguayans, 12,297 Argentines and 3,743 Brazilians. The rest of the people correspond to other nationalities.
The main exit point was also Paysandú (with 23,364), followed by Colonia, Salto, Carrasco International Airport and the city of Fray Bentos (Río Negro).
By way of background, and according to what was reported on May 11 by the Ministry of Tourism, Minister Tabaré Viera announced at a press conference that in the first quarter of 2022, 391,683 tourists entered the country, spending U$S S383,109,152. In turn, in the same period, 157,043 residents of Uruguay traveled abroad, spending US$ 113,291,690.
