Despite the fact that in the last few hours a report from the FADEEAC (Argentine Federation of Freight Transport Business Entities), revealed that the shortage of gasoil had spread to the entire country, the oil companies indicate that the situation is beginning to normalize.
From the Chamber of the Petroleum Industry (CIP), its president, Adrián Peres, assured that, currently, they work with “89% of the supply of gasoil in all seasons”, for the provision of the gas increased in the last two weeks.
Even Peres explained that the “situation continues to improve”, since there was “a stock shortage of 70% at the beginning of June”and that all the oil companies make a great effort to solve the shortage of gasoil.
“All the distilleries are working at full capacity. We are all working on the right path, which is to return to the normalization of the supply of gasoil“, stressed the head of the CIP.
According to Peres, this is due to the measures implemented by the government on the increase in the cut of biodiesel, which was also highlighted by the Secretary of Energy, Darío Martínez.
“The increase in the cut of biodiesel, the growing rate of imports and the full operation of the national production capacity, are bearing fruit”Martinez asserted.
However, there is still no exact date for when the problem will be completely solved, since ships are also expected to arrive soon to attend to the supply of fuel.
Why is there a fuel shortage?
Since the beginning of the year, the demand for gas increased considerably and even reached historical levels, since until May, the volume of diesel sales had increased by up to 19%, which in the short term caused shortages.
This, added to how difficult it has been to import fuel due to the effects of the war between Russia and Ukraine, aggravated the problem, which is why many service stations began to limit sales.
