Luis Larrea García, president of the Bolivian Medical College, was arrested this Friday night, in La Paz, for the alleged crime of murder. The doctor had been summoned to testify since 2:00 p.m. and at the end of the hearing he was taken to the cells of the Special Force to Fight Crime at the Government headquarters.
According to Bolivia TV, the complainant is a relative of Larrea, who accused of not having provided timely medical care and for malpractice doctor, in 2020, to his father.
Virginia Paredes, vice president of the Medical College, said in this regard: “We have learned that his (Larrea’s) arrest has been carried out, aspect that alerts the entire collegiate body of health”.
Meanwhile, the secretary of that institution, Freddy Fernández, stated: “We demand a proper investigation, a trial within the regulations.”
He also announced that the National Health Commission (Conasa) will have an emergency meeting, tonight, and virtually, to agree on determinations as a sector, since they consider thate this apprehension is part of a political persecution of the Government.
He pointed out that, at the extraordinary meeting of the Medical College that took place last June, they saw arrests coming to their leadersso they had determined that, in the event of these occurring, they would take immediate protest actions, including suspending activities of medical and health personnel. Fernández expressed that they do not want to go to such extremes, but that it will be the members of Conasa who decide.
Fernández pointed out that there is political persecution against Larrea and argued that lawsuits had previously been filed against him at his previous source of employment, which were not completed.
