Bolivia sends 15 tons of food and 5 tons of medicines to Cuba

“The sister Republic of Cuba continues to be affected by the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, which threatens the life of the Cuban people and hinders access to food and medicine,” the document states.

The food will be donated by the Community Action and Solidarity Management Unit, and the Ministry of the Presidency will be in charge of the management, while the medicines are the responsibility of the Central Supply and Health Supplies of the Ministry of Health.

The text also details that logistics and transportation are guaranteed by the Ministry of Defense within its budget, so it will not imply an additional cost.

This is the second donation that will be sent from La Paz to Havana this year. Last July, a Bolivian Air Force plane landed in the Cuban capital with 20 tons of aid

This is the second donation that will be sent from La Paz to Havana this year. Last July, a Bolivian Air Force plane landed in the Cuban capital with 20 tons of help. The load consisted of 2.5 tons of disposable syringes, 16.5 tons of food and one of biosafety supplies.

On that occasion, the Minister of the Presidency, María Nela Prada, personally expressed her solidarity with Cuba in the face of the US embargo and added that it meant “more internationalist solidarity, more social justice and more struggle for life.”

The relations between Cuba and Bolivia, very fruitful during the years of the Government of Evo Morales, were broken during the transitional Government led by Jeanine Áñez, in preventive detention since last March and awaiting a trial for “sedition” that the opposition describes as “political persecution.”

With the return of the Movement to Socialism (MAS) to the Government and under the mandate of Luis Arce, which began in November 2020, relations between the two nations have returned to the path of closer cooperation.
