Parents of families affirm that they support the struggle of teachers, but do not share the paralysis of classes

The strike of the teachers’ unions has alarmed parents due to the absence of classes in various educational centers, as expressed by the National Union of Parents of Private Educational Centers (Unadepa).

The national coordinator of Unadepa, Javier Lombardo, expressed this Thursday, on Radio Panama, that it is true that the increase in fuel and the basic basket is affecting us all, however, he mentioned that the issue of protest and struggle is It is important because the government must be awakened, because it seems to be in a parallel universe to the one in which the Panamanian people live and its priorities are not the same as those of the great majority.

Regarding the educational issue, he indicated that we have come from a strong period since the Covid-19 pandemic and the effort of virtual education was made, but they do not share the current stoppage of classes that is taking place.

“Paralyze again, it’s not possible. I don’t know why the teachers don’t say: ‘we are going to protest for at least an hour in the schoolyards’, I think it would be even more educational for the kids; or let’s make a big demonstration on a Saturday and I am sure that even the parents will be there and we will support”, he remarked.

The leader stressed that students, with these measures are affected in their academic performance. “We agree with the fight because the government needs to react and is harming itself, alternatives must be sought,” he said.
