The Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, affirmed this Thursday that the “new stage of the pandemic” thanks to advances in vaccination makes it possible to go back to the provinces to look at “the capacities throughout the country and be able to enhance them”, heading in the missionary city of Puerto Iguazú a new face-to-face edition of the Federal Health Council (Cofesa).

“In this Cofesa we are already in this new stage of the pandemic, really going to the provinces,” the Minister said in statements to the press.

“The key to being able to be as we are is what progress Argentina has made in vaccination, we are already giving the second booster, vaccinating from the age of three, and working to continue expanding,” said the Minister, noting that “the diversity that our country requires general and then specific actions for each one of the provinces and, within each province, for each one of the territories”.

The main axes of this new meeting are to advance the federal strategy for a comprehensive approach to Mental Health, in the public production of medicines, in mechanisms to control antimicrobial resistance, and to plan the next vaccination campaign for measles, polio, rubella, and mumps.

“What we are looking at are the capacities throughout the country and being able to strengthen them”assured the head of the health portfolio, after having inaugurated yesterday the second stage of the work of the campus of the National Institute of Tropical Medicine (Inmet) in Iguazú, with an investment that exceeds 600 million pesos and will have biosafety laboratories for work with highly dangerous pathogens.

Among the new scientific developments, the minister highlighted that in the last week the kit Carba Color Test (CCT) to detect bacterial resistance to antibiotics.

“This week we also present a iron supplement from Rio Negro laboratory so that Remediate can be incorporated into the 1,000-Day Plan’s medicine cabinet,” he continued.

In turn, the minister indicated that “Nation has a support mechanism for the provinces that is very important through two axes: national programs that provide supplies such as vaccines, antiretrovirals, complementary support for oncological medication, Remediar, and then through transfers for results”.

Secondly, Vizzotti raised the importance of “responding to the demand withheld from the pandemic, not only in Argentina, but in the world.”

“Hospitals are working and have a very high demand for other pathologies that are not Covid-19, but that could not be treated in this sense. So, we have to start reformulating the objectives and the steps to follow based on that situation,” he considered.
