Havana Cuba. – Desperate for the situation she is experiencing, a Cuban mother denounces the neglect of the authorities, particularly with the youngest of her three children, who has a physical disability.
Yoanka Díaz Echevarría, a resident of the Arroyo Naranjo municipality, says that she no longer knows who to turn to for support, because, although all the institutions she has turned to have promised help, the promises have not been kept.
The interviewee indicates that her son suffers from West Syndrome and that, in addition, he has a neurometabolic disease. He is lactose intolerant and does not walk or talk.
“He doesn’t eat chicken, he doesn’t eat meat, he can’t eat beans or juice either. I went to the Government and said that I needed a special crib, a special car and nothing”.
Regarding the medicines that her son needs, Yoanka explains that she has been without receiving them for up to five months due to shortages.
On the other hand, the house they live in gets wet and their roof is about to collapse. In March 2022 the authorities of living place They made her carry out a series of procedures to offer her a place where they could settle, but she is still waiting.
“Nobody else has come here. The Housing Department said that this was in terrible conditions to live in, that they were going to give me a place, but no one has ever come, nor have they summoned me for anything, ”she lamented.
Yoanka and her three children live crowded in a small house where there are also 10 other people whose lives are at risk due to the danger of collapse.
