A nine-month-old child died and an adult was injured in a fire that destroyed four houses this Wednesday morning in the San José and La Mina sector, in the southern part of Santiago.
The victim was identified as Daimon Pie, the son of a couple of Haitian citizens, who were outside the house when the fire occurred.
Alexander Rodríguez, about 25 years old, suffered burns on his back and shoulders.
The young man said that he was surprised by the flames when he was sleeping, at around 10:00 this morning.
The affected houses were built of wood and zinc.
The Fire Department, whose agency together with the National Police investigate the causes of the incident, found it difficult to penetrate the place due to the narrowness of the streets.
Neighbors say that the incident originated in an altar that was in one of the burned houses.
