Acodeco and other entities carry out a national inventory of potatoes and onions

The Authority for Consumer Protection and Defense of Competition (Acodeco), together with other entities in the agricultural sector, carries out an inventory of potatoes and onions throughout the country.

In order to know the amount of these items existing throughout the country, distributors and different commercial retail stores are being visited, where officials from these government agencies have compiled information on the existence or supply of these consumer products. the Panamanians.

These inventories are important, because they allow knowing the degree of supply in the country. Unlike the price surveys carried out by Acodeco, for analysis and informing the population; In inventories, the main variable to investigate is the total quantity of the product at the national level in that given period.

The transcendental of this work is precisely to guarantee the adequate supply of the national market, since, in the meetings of the agri-food chains, together with MIDA engineers, the availability analysis is carried out and if this tool is not available, it is not possible to plan the imports that are given through the quotas, in the quantities necessary to satisfy the aggregate demand. Thanks to these projections, the market maintains adequate supplies and we avoid significant fluctuations in the prices of these items.
