A group of opposition senators from Chile filed a complaint with the Public Ministry to request that an investigation be opened into the flights made to that country by the Venezuelan airline Conviasa with a plane that belonged to the Iranian Mahan Air, sanctioned by the United States for having links with terrorist organizations.
“We ask the Public Ministry to accept this complaint and, if it agrees, a complaint to request that an investigation be initiated, instruct an investigation. This, with the purpose of verifying the existence of possible criminal acts in the framework of the case already indicated”, requested the senators of the party National Renewal (RN).
Chilean senators denounce Conviasa
In their written request, they recalled that on April 6, the Chilean government signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” that broadens the spectrum of the commercial air relationship between Venezuela and Chile. From this, the Airbus A340-642 aircraft registration YV3533, which Mahan Air transferred to Venezuela, made several trips between Caracas and Santiago.
Given this, they stressed that “both Conviasa and Mahan Air are companies sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury. Also, that they are currently leading a scandal in Argentina for their links with Iranian terrorist organizations.
“The case becomes even more complex, since there are indications that a network of terrorism and cybersecurity attacks could hide behind this aeronautical activity,” they said.
At the same time, they highlighted the investigation processes already opened in Argentina and in Paraguay against the airline for this very fact.
