Madrid Spain.- Cuban scientist Ariel Ruiz Urquiola it was declared on a hunger and thirst strike this Monday in front of the Wilson Palace, headquarters of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland, to demand the entity’s intervention in the recent prohibition of the Cuban regime to enter the Island to her sister, the activist Omara Ruiz Urquiola.
Before starting the strike, the biologist presented a document to the UN with a series of demands related fundamentally to the situation of Omara Ruiz Urquiola, who had traveled to the United States to receive cancer treatment.
The member of the Madrid resistance, Beluka Calderón, a personal friend of Ariel Ruiz Urquiola, in statements to CubaNet He stressed that “Ariel has decided to make this decision to stand up because he knows of no other way to make the United Nations react, which is what it is for, to serve citizens around the world and ensure that respect for human rights is complied with. , which has not been fulfilled with him”.
Calderón recalled that two years ago Ariel Ruiz Urquiola “stood before the UN so that they would attend to his complaint related to the HIV virus, which was inoculated by the regime.”
“Michelle Bachelet passed by the place where she was on strike and didn’t even speak to her. After five days, they let him speak and gave him 90 seconds to explain her case. He had a representative of the Cuban dictatorship constantly interrupting him,” she added.
“Two years later she still hasn’t received that answer and this, together with her sister’s situation, is the reason why she is on strike. She wants to make the whole world see that her sister has every right to return. She has no legal status in the United States. The UN and the European institutions that do not pay attention to Ariel will be as responsible for her death as the Cuban dictatorship, ”Beluka Calderón told this medium.
Dr. Emilio Arteaga Pérez, from the Free Cuban Medical Guild, who has been attending the biologist due to his state of health, he pointed the danger that this strike represents for his life.
Arteaga also stressed that the activist is in a perfect state of mental health, anticipating that the Cuban regime will claim otherwise to discredit him.
