Carrier strike: 'We will not take roads to avoid criminal proceedings,' says leader in Tumbes (VIDEO)

Various transport unions have accepted today, Monday, July 4, an indefinite strike due to the rise in fuel, among other demands. In various regions the stoppage has been peaceful, while in others roads have been blocked with tires and wood, thus preventing the free movement of passengers.

In this regard, the coordinator of the Los Fronterizos Association, Antón Núñez, indicated from Tumbes that the carriers he represents will not take the roads while the protest measure lasts, since such actions are sanctioned by law.

“From us it could be a peaceful march, but in the places where highways are being taken -according to what I have information- that for a while they take it and let vehicles pass. They’re definitely not taking it, but here in Tumbes we know the emergency that they have decreed on the highways and we do not take them so as not to be included in a criminal proceeding or anything like that”, he asserted in a dialogue with RPP Noticias.

National road network declared a state of emergency

It is worth remembering that, on June 27, the Executive declared a state of emergency in the National Road Network for 30 calendar days. Along these lines, the National Police of Peru (PNP) will maintain control of internal order, with the support of the Armed Forces.

According to during the state of emergency, the constitutional rights related to freedom of transit in the national territory, freedom of assembly and personal freedom and security, among others, are suspended.

At the time, the measure was approved due to the strike announced by heavy cargo carriers and the agricultural sector scheduled for June 27 and 28.

indefinite unemployment

On the other hand, Antón Núñez confirmed that all this Monday the units of the Los Fronterizos Association, which covers the Tumbes – Zarumilla route, will not provide their services and did not rule out that tomorrow they will also abide by the stoppage measure.

“The rise in fuel, the family basket has risen too high. In this strike we are also going to make it clear that the agreements made in the strike on April 9, which so far have not been resolved at all, are being fulfilled. (…) Throughout today we are not going to go out waiting for some directive from the national diligence to see what we conclude “, he pointed.

In addition, he commented that paralyzing their services generates a loss of S / 50 to S / 60 per day. “What we are going to lose is minimal.”
