Two people died as a result of a car accident occurred this Sunday night in the eastern Cuban province of Granmaaccording to official sources.
The incident occurred on the Manzanillo city ring road, between the entrance of the asphalt plant and the El Caney cafeteria, when a Lada brand car hit a motorcycle, according to the local radio station’s report. Radio Granma.
As a consequence, a 64-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman lost their lives. Although the information from the official media does not refer to it, publications on social networks assure that it was a marriage that was traveling on the electric motorcycle.
Also on the networks and in unofficial media, different versions are offered about the causes of the event, but the brief report of Radio Granma does not confirm any and indicates that the Cuban police continued the investigation to determine how the accident happened.
Nor does it refer to the existence of more injured people.
At the end of May, another accident in the province of Granma left a balance of at least three deceased and around 15 injured, when a truck with passengers rushed down one of the sides of the road while traveling on the highway that connects the municipalities of Media Luna and Campechuela, in an area known as La Norma.
According to official data, car accidents reported in Cuba between January and May of this year leave an average of two deaths and 30 injuries per day. In the first five months of 2022, 27 daily accidents occurred, on average, and one death is reported for every 14 of these events, according to a report by the National Traffic Directorate.
The information underlines that the human factor determines 89% of these events and that the main causes were not attending to the control of the vehicle, violating the right of way, speeding, technical malfunctions and ingestion of alcoholic beverages.
