On a day of little trading due to the July 4th holiday in the United States, the dollar closed practically stable, after spending much of the session in a low. The stock market had a slight drop, after operating almost all day in stability.
The commercial dollar ended this Monday (4) sold at R$ 5.326, up 0.09%. With any inflow of funds influencing the price, due to the low trading volume, the currency dropped to R$5.29 around 11:15 am, but gradually regained strength until it closed higher.
With today’s performance, the dollar is at its highest level since January 28, when it closed at R$5.39. Despite recent highs, the currency accumulates a drop of 4.48% in 2022.
The day was also marked by volatility in the stock market. The B3 Ibovespa index closed at 98,609 points, down 0.35%. The indicator practically returned the gains of last Friday (1st), when it had risen 0.42%.
Without the reference of the North American market, the stock exchange and the dollar were influenced by the negotiations around the proposed amendment to the Constitution (PEC) that increases social benefits until the end of the year. The text, which should be rushed through the Chamber of Deputies, foresees an impact of R$ 41.25 billion in the General Budget of the Union in the second half of the year.
On the international scene, investors await the release of data on the US economy, scheduled for this week. The first will be the minutes of the last meeting of the Federal Reserve (Fed, US Central Bank), which should provide clues about the extent of the interest rate hike in the United States.
The second will be the disclosure of the North American salary mass. Positive data in the labor market increase the Fed’s willingness to raise interest rates in the largest economy on the planet. High rates in advanced economies encourage capital flight from emerging countries such as Brazil.
