the golden oar

Paraguay continues to collect medals at the Valledupar 2022 Bolivarian Games. Rowing was one of the first disciplines to extol the tricolor flag by flying in first place.

In Colombia, the Paraguayan rower Javier Insfrán had managed to obtain the first gold medal for the national delegation in the Bolivarian Games by winning the men’s Single. The compatriot reached the finish line in the first position and his time was 03’40”01, in the pair of short oars (M1x).

Javier Insfrán, lived these Games in the best way, with which he was quite satisfied. “Personally, it gave me a lot of growth, it was a competition where the level allowed me to become a little independent and carry out technical aspects of my boat on my own, and that generates a lot of confidence and security, which added to other events we will achieve a certain sporting maturity.”

“I had an optimal performance, I quite liked both competitions, even being the 4x (silver) where I overstepped the most and that leaves a very nice feeling, that we can always go one step further. I was satisfied, but hungry for more. Satisfied with the dedication and sacrifice, but we are already working so that the next competition brings even better results” remarked the medalist.

The gold rower said that the most challenging thing was “encouraging myself to move alone. Regarding the technical aspects of the boat, measurements and calibration. Since we were many athletes and to speed up, I took care of my single. Then if we checked it with the teacher and everything turned out very well. It was a competition in which the maximum effort of all the athletes was seen, always looking for more”.

“Valledupar has a great human quality, the locals were always with the best good vibes, a smile and trying in some way to provide the best conditions. Paraguay in our discipline is quite good, we improved our harvest compared to the previous Bolivarians, and that is the result of the work that has been done. And for all the other athletes, wish them much success because we can”, emphasized Insfrán.

“As the days passed, the details of the organization of the event were adjusted and improved. In particular, I relaxed and enjoyed the competition, since we were all in the same situations. The big goal is the Odesur at home, in the middle we will try to go to Canada for a preparatory competition that also has me very excited. I no longer have any particular anxiety for Asu 2022, but if it is a well-marked goal that I have between my eyebrows, I am looking to give my best every day to do things well when the time comes”, highlighted the rower.

To conclude, Javier said: “I am very blessed to have the support of so many people, that is why I say that in that single I am never alone, the whole team, family, colleagues, institutions and even the town itself are kicking with me, so endless thanks to all”
