La Libertad: Army and PNP prepare intervention against illegal mining in Pataz

Generals from the Army and the PNP met with the regional governor of La Libertad, Manuel Llempen Coronel, and agreed to carry out joint interventions in the areas taken over by illegal mining.

In the meeting, where officials from the mining companies of the Pataz province of Libertad also participated, it was agreed to carry out joint interventions to stop the escalation of violence and deaths generated by the actions of illegal mining.

“What is happening in the Pataz district and in Retamas is turning into chaos. It’s no man’s land. To facilitate the interventions, it would be ideal to have the declaration of an emergency due to insecurity for the provinces of the Andes and to have logistical and economic support from the State, but as long as that happens, we cannot sit idly by.”, said Llempen.

Criminal gangs

As reported by GORE La Libertad to this newspaper, the arrival of strangers in these towns has generated a very serious problem. due to the fights for the territories of exploitation, where they also interveneorganized gangs from Trujillo that have already settled in Pataz and are armed”.

In addition, these problems are starting to replicate in places like Sánchez Carrión, Santiago de Chuco, Otuzco and Gran Chimú. In this sense, in the aforementioned meeting it was pointed out that The Army and the PNP will intervene to correct this problem of order and internal security, however, resources would be lacking.

“La Libertad owes its growth to mining and agricultural exports. I believe that by better articulating the interventions in each sector we can help achieve the development and well-being of the population (…) We cannot put the activity they carry out at risk due to new risk factors”Governor Llempen assured.
