InfoGripe points to a growth trend in SARS cases in the country

The Infogripe Bulletin, released today (4) by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), points to the resumption of growth in the number of cases of Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in the country, with most of them, 77.6%, positive for SARS-CoV-2, virus causing covid-19. The analysis refers to the period from June 19 to 25. In this period there was growth both in the long-term trend, considering the cases of the last six weeks, and in the short-term trend, considering the last three weeks.

According to Infogripe, the prevalence among cases with a positive result for respiratory viruses was 2.4% for influenza A, 0.1% for influenza B, 7.6% for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and 77.6% for Sars-CoV-2 (covid-19). Among the deaths recorded in the period, the presence of these same viruses among the positives was 1% for influenza A, 0.1% for influenza B, 1.4% for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and 94.5% for Sars- CoV-2 (Covid-19).

Among babies and children aged 0 to 4 years, the bulletin shows that the cases of covid-19 are close to those of RSV. These two viruses accounted for 36% and 39%, respectively.

The data show that 16 of the 27 federative units show signs of growth in the long-term trend: Alagoas, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Paraíba, Piauí, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Roraima, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Tocantins.

In the states of the Southeast and South regions, there are indications of a possible interruption in the growth trend in recent weeks, which should be reassessed in the next updates for confirmation.

Despite the growth of SARS cases in the country, the bulletin shows that among the adult population there is a sign of deceleration, especially in the age groups from 50 years old. In children and adolescents, a maintenance sign of decline is observed between the groups from 0 to 4 and 5 to 11 years old.

In 2022, according to the bulletin, 175,110 SARS cases were reported, of which 86,005 (49.1%) had a positive laboratory result for some respiratory virus, 65,440 (37.4%) were negative, and at least 14,317 (8.2%) were negative. %) awaiting laboratory results.

This year, regarding SARS cases, 28,812 deaths were recorded, of which 21,957 (76.2%) had a positive laboratory result for some respiratory virus, 5,442 (18.9%) were negative, and at least 597 (2.1%) awaiting laboratory results.
