Demand for domestic flights fell by 2.5% in May, compared to the same month in 2019, points out the Brazilian Association of Airlines, based on reports from the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac). The data is measured in passengers per kilometer transported (RPK).
The offer, in turn, increased by 6%. It is calculated in available seat kilometer (ASK). The average aircraft occupancy rate, therefore, stood at 75.1%, which represents a decrease of 6.6 percentage points compared to May 2019. 6.4 million passengers were transported, 10% less than the base year of comparison.
In the international market, the drop in demand reached 31.1% compared to 2019 and, in supply, the reduction was 31.2%. The use of aircraft had a slight positive variation of 0.2 percentage point, reaching 85.7%. 1.2 million passengers were transported, 36.5% less.
In comparison with April, the results in the domestic market are positive, with an increase of 3.4% in demand and 7.9% in supply. In international flights, there was a growth of 6.4% in demand and 3.5% in supply.
In relation to air transport of cargo and mail, there was a drop of 6.1% in May compared to the same month of 2019. In terms of international demand, this activity grew by 24.7% in the same period.
