Plan Avanzar: 20 settlements, 12 localities, 7 departments

Plan Avanzar

The Movement for the Eradication of Unhealthy Rural Housing (Mevir) and the Ministry of Housing, through the National Directorate for Social and Urban Integration (Dinisu) presented a specific agreement to develop projects within the framework of the Avanzar plan. This plan will be implemented in 20 settlements in 12 localities in seven departments: Artigas, Salto, Treinta y Tres, Río Negro, Durazno, Colonia and Flores.

The objective of the agreement is to establish the conditions under which the activities that arise for the realization of comprehensive actions on housing precariousness in the territories and settlements indicated will be carried out.

The works of the Avanzar plan will begin at the end of 2022, with the objective that by the end of 2024 several of the works will be completed.

The president of Mevir, Juan Pablo Delgado, explained that more than 4,000 people will benefit directly. He also expressed that this project does not only consist of the construction of houses, but also in the concept of community. That includes the development of urbanization and social work with families.

He also expressed that it seeks to integrate families so that they are not only beneficiaries, but also get involved in the process. Likewise, he stated that each case will be studied to determine if it is possible to regularize the lands on which the settlements are installed. In order to be able to build on those properties, a relocation will be necessary.

The Minister of Housing, Irene Moreira highlighted the joint work to find a solution for the 200,000 people who live in this situation. She highlighted the support of the Congress of Mayors and Mevir.

For her part, the national director of Social and Urban Integration, Florencia Arbeleche, explained that this program expands the possibilities of improving the housing infrastructure in the settlements.
