sectors trade Y services led the Dominican labor market during the first half of 2022, reported the Continuous National Survey of the Workforce, carried out by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic.
According to the study, 21.2 percent of the jobs were generated by the trade and another 19 percent by the sector services.
Of the 4 million 640 thousand employed persons registered in this survey from January to March of this year, both in the formal and informal sectors, 983 thousand 930 work in the trade.
The second sector that groups the activities to which 880 thousand 164 people are dedicated is “other services”, that is, companies of various sizes such as contact centers, MSMEs in the creative industry (services digital, design, culture, fashion), as well as beauty salons and barbershops.
Industry and free zones (9.9%) and construction (8.3%) completed the main four groups.
The industrial sector, which in this survey includes local manufacturing, manufacturing of free zones and mines, registered a total of 460 thousand 379 employed persons, while the people dedicated to construction registered a total of 383 thousand 331 employees during the analyzed period.
“We are proud of the contributions to development that we have promoted from the MICM with a surprising reactivation of the industry, the tradefree zones, local manufacturing, storage and MSMEs, this is also indicated by the numbers of the Central Bank”, said the Minister of Industry, Trade and Mipymes Víctor “Ito” Bisonó.
These sectors have contributed significantly to the generation of new jobs since the beginning of the year.
One of the countries that registered the most growth in the number of employed persons, from January to March 2022, was other serviceswith 67 thousand 209 new workers, followed by trade, with 47 thousand 502; construction, with 35 thousand 134 and industries, with 16 thousand 166. One aspect to highlight is that associated with the quality of both existing and generated jobs.
