Puerto Plata – A source informed Multimedios del Caribe that unknown individuals would have tried to introduce drugs with a pigeon to the San Felipe Correction and Rehabilitation Center, in Puerto Plata. So prison officers responded with shots in the air to prevent the messenger bird or “narco pigeon” entered narcotics in jail.
In the midst of the shooting, at least four prisoners were injured by pellets. They are Wiliam Núñez, 23 years old, Félix Estiben Reyes, 41 years old, Santo Batista Mora, 21 years old, and Luis Martín Carela, 22.
Despite the fact that they have minor injuries, the inmates were transferred to the Ricardo Limardo Provincial Hospital to receive medical assistance.
Neither the Public Ministry nor the Person in Charge of the Penitentiary Management Model have referred to the incident.
