With the victory, Tricolor das Laranjeiras reaches 24 points, currently occupying the 4th position of the classification. Timão fell to 3rd position with 26 points, being overtaken by Atlético-MG, who beat Juventude this Saturday.

Faced with a very lacking Corinthians, which currently prioritizes the Copa Libertadores (for which it faces Boca Juniors, from Argentina, next Tuesday in search of a spot in the quarterfinals), the team led by coach Fernando Diniz commanded the actions from the beginning.

Thus, the first goal came in the 14th minute, when the Colombian Arias took a corner and the defender Manoel went up a lot to score with a header. This was the defender’s 5th goal in 2022. Maintaining their dominance, Fluminense extended their lead before the break.

And the goal came again from a set piece by Arias. The Colombian took a free kick from entering the area, this time to the Argentine Germán Cano, who did not forgive.

In the final stage, coach Vítor Pereira is still trying to change the scenario of the match with some substitutions, but the tone remained the same, with Fluminense in charge. With the dominance, Tricolor managed to reach the third, this time in a quick counterattack move.

In the 25th minute Caio Paulista left the Tricolor defense field at speed, played for Matheus Martins, who turned to Samuel Xavier, who reached the bottom line and crossed low for Cano to finish first to beat goalkeeper Cássio. With this goal, Fluminense’s number 9 started to share the Brazilian’s artillery with his compatriot Calleri, from São Paulo.

However, the most memorable moment of the match was yet to come. With the advantage on the marker, coach Fernando Diniz decided to pay tribute to forward Fred, who will bid farewell to the pitch next Saturday (9) in the game against Ceará. Shirt 9 entered the field in place of Cano in the last minutes and scored the fourth goal of the Tricolor.

In the 45th minute of the final stage, Samuel Xavier played for Martinelli, who crossed for Fred to beat goalkeeper Cássio. This was the striker’s 199th goal for Fluminense, for which he played 381 games. A beautiful ending to a great victory.
