MIAMI, United States.- One of the crew members of an Iranian plane contracted by Venezuela who has been held in Argentina for almost a month would have undergone surgery to change his face in Cubadenounced the president of Paraguay Mario Abdo Benítez.
“Imagine, it looks like a movie,” Abdo Benítez told local media, and although he did not offer other details or reveal the identity of the individual, he assured that the intelligence information was received by his office as part of an investigation that is being carried out. at the Ezeiza airport, Buenos Aires, where the aircraft arrived on June 6.
The president also said that a large part of the crew of the Boeing 747-300, with registration YV3531, held and under investigation in Argentina, “has links with international terrorism.”
The plane of the Iranian company Mahan Air, which belongs to Emtrasur, a subsidiary of the state-owned Consortium of Aeronautical Industries and Air Services (Conviasa), had flown to South America from Iran on several occasions. On May 13, it landed in Paraguay and left on the 16th with a load of cigars bound for Aruba.
However, “Paraguayan intelligence did a great job to determine the danger of this flight and since Paraguay reported and alerted, inquiries could be made,” said the president. “More things will be known over time,” he added.
The Paraguayan authorities alerted Uruguay to the flight and shortly after Montevideo prohibited it from landing, the plane continued its journey to Córdoba, Argentina, on June 6, and from there to Buenos Aires, where it has been under investigation since then.
“We will continue, no matter what countries they are from. Here it is not an issue against any country, the fight is against international crime and terrorism”, said Abdo Benítez.
Tehran, for its part, has complained about the accusations against its plane and the crew and has treated them as “vain and unfounded.”
The plane has not been able to leave Argentina because no company wants to fuel it due to Mahan Air’s links with the armed wing of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
The crew of the plane, fourteen Venezuelan citizens and five Iranians, are in Canning, province of Buenos Aires, while the investigation continues.
