Undersecretary for Crime Prevention, Eduardo Vergaraaddressed the National Security Plan announced by the Government of President Gabriel Boricafter the growth of violent crimes in our country.
in conversation with Radio DNA, Vergara highlighted the measure by pointing out that “after 20 years, Chile is going to have a national public security policy.”

The undersecretary stated that Chile’s current structure in terms of security falls short, which is why he highlighted the presence of the Ministry of Women and the Ombudsman for Children in the presentation of the plan, since “the government effort is of great magnitude and gives an account of a fact that Chileans deserve to know”.
Initiative
When delivering the details of the initiative presented by the Executive, the authority communicated that the focus is on the prevention of crimes and the attack on organized crime. In total there are 33 specific measures, highlighting the changes in arms control and a prioritization of crimes of greater social connotation.
“The new categorization allows our police and institutions to prioritize crimes that generate the most impact on people,” he said.
He also stressed that the purpose of the Plan is to work with the municipalities to constantly evaluate the different situations.
“This insecurity has been going on for a long time, and the heart of this public security policy has to be equity. That’s why we have to be careful about saying ‘now’ this is happening,” he added.
Finally, he stated that “if we continue to think that insecurity is ending with bombastic phrases and threats that ‘the party is over here’, we are going to go straight to an increase in crime. We have to do the opposite, account for the results, not announcing the operations through the press as has been done many times, where a general alert was sent and people from the weakest links ended up being arrested just to increase the figures”.
