MIAMI, United States. — Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel mourned the death of the FAR division general Luis Alberto Rodriguez Lopez-Callejawho died this Friday at the age of 62 due to cardiorespiratory arrest.
“I feel deep pain when expressing my condolences and those of the people of Cuba to the family and friends of Luis Alberto Rodríguez López-Calleja. A revolutionary has left us, a man who served the Homeland and the Revolution in all its trenches,” Díaz-Canel wrote in his Twitter account. Twitter.

“It is with deep sorrow that I received the news of the death of comrade Luis Alberto, a great businessman, a great economist, a great revolutionary, faithful to Fidel and Raúl, my brother. My support to the whole family”.
At the time of his death, López-Calleja, former son-in-law of Raúl Castro, was serving as executive president of the FAR Business Administration Group (GAESA), a military conglomerate that controls most of the country’s tourism investments. He was also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and a deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power for the municipality of Remedios (Villa Clara), a position he had held since October of last year.
Luis Alberto Rodríguez López-Calleja was sanctioned by the United States government in 2020 due to his role at the head of GAESA, a position he took up in 2011 after the death of Army Corps General Julio Casas Regueiro.
