“Princess” Kayra Harding is re-elected as the first vice-president of the Assembly

The deputy of the ruling party of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD), Kayra Harding, was re-elected as the first vice president of the National Assembly for the 2022-2023 regular session period.

Harding faced off, without much of a fight, against deputy Gabriel Silva, proposed by the independent caucus, and deputy Hugo Méndez from the Panamanian party. The “Princess” obtained 54 votes, while Silva obtained 5 votes; For his part, Méndez received the support of 11 deputies.

In Harding’s selection, several of her colleagues who cast their vote for her treated her with the title of Ghanaian royalty; while some of her called her princess, others more daring named her “her majesty” of her.

During the vote, Alaín Cedeño, one of the so-called dissident deputies of Cambio Democrático (CD), abstained from voting.

Deputy Méndez was proposed by Ana Gisselle Rosas, a CD member, who assured that she made this application as a message to the country that there is no space “to think about politics, but to think about the people who are going through difficult times right now. “.

The independent Juan Diego Vásquez, who voted for Gabriel Silva, assured that his vote was not for cronyism and much less was it directed at those who have badly governed.

This morning deputy Miguel Ángel Fanovich was also reelected as second vice president of the National Assembly, for the Fourth Period of Ordinary Sessions 2022-2023. With this election, the Board of Directors of the AN is the same as the one that led the chamber last term: Crispiano Adames, president; Kayra Harding, first vice president and Miguel Ángel Fanovich as second vice president.
