This Friday morning, former President Ricardo Martinelli announced, through his Twitter account, that he had been invited to the inauguration of the National Assembly, stating that “once again, I will listen to a speech full of falsehoods, unfulfilled promises, vague proposals with specific accusations justifying why not of things”.
Upon arrival at the legislative chamber, Martinelli asserted that in these three years of President Laurentino Cortizo’s administration, “the government has failed completely, it has failed.” At the same time, he mentioned Juan Carlos Varela, adding: “I thought Varela was bad, but these are worse.”
He aspires that in 2024 this situation can be changed and reversed and “give back to the Panamanian people the quality of life and the aspiration to be able to dream of what they want to be, there must be work, health, good transportation, but above all there must be good ‘chen chen’ for all Panamanians”.
The former president also took the opportunity to confirm that his lawyers filed an appeal this Friday against the decision of the Electoral Court judge who ordered the lifting of the electoral criminal jurisdiction for the Odebrecht case.
Regarding the audit that the General Directorate of Revenue (DGI) ordered to carry out, he stated that “they have taken this as a political weapon because it is the only way that they want to look for something that they cannot find, and that is why they have armed me with everything a series of cases. They have created a disastrous precedent. What is here is a political persecution”.
Martinelli said that they must be thinking about how to solve the problems of Panamanians and the issue of Cortizo’s health, he now calls for a “government of national unity.”
“Here we are seeing is how we fight, that is why we have the country of Algarete, there is a large amount of unemployment,” concluded the former president.
