The President of the Chamber of Accounts, Janel Ramirezyesterday defended the independence of that body and the transparency with which its members carry out their work.
It ensured that all the documentation of objections to the preliminary report of the audit carried out at the Plan for the Humanization of the Penitentiary System that received the CC was verified, to see if any finding appeared.
Ramírez reported that the objections were received within the legal periodboth from those responsible for the management that was audited (2016-2020), and from the current one.
“We spent exactly 7 or 8 days reviewing all that documentation and, if you look closely, the provisional report had some variations,” said the official.
He specified that in the first point of the provisional report, there was information that had not been provided to the auditors “and, therefore, we could not issue no opinion”, but that once they were sent to them by the two actors, that point changed in the final report.

The president of the CC thus responded to the declarations of the defense council of Jean Alain Rodriguezwhich described the audit of the project carried out during the administration of the former attorney, as a “felony” liable to nullity, because it did not take into account his objections and would have acted under pressure from the Public Ministry.
“We are respectful of the considerations of other people, but it is good that they know that we do independent, objective, technical work…”, said Ramírez, after participating in an act in which the attorney Miriam German Brito was recognized with the “European Award for Human Rights in the Dominican Republic.
The official concluded the work of the Chamber of Accounts regarding the issue, indicating that it is in the hands of other bodies that have to discuss other matters.
