Numerous members of the City Fire Department and the Federal Police, together with SAME personnel, carried out an extensive operation this Friday morning in front of the National Congress to rescue a man who climbed a scaffolding installed on the facade of the main entrance of the Legislative Palace, on Entre Ríos Avenue, from where he threatened to throw himself into the void.
The operation was deployed from a call received on the 911 line shortly before 7.
After negotiations carried out by a GEOF representative without the man agreeing to go down on his own, rescuers managed to get him onto a crane amid struggles and blows that increased the tension.
“He was psychomotor excited and many troops received punches and kicks. Luckily he is fine. We gave him a major tranquilizer to calm him down,” synthesized the head of SAME, Alberto Crescenti, who coordinated the emergency operation arranged with two ambulances.
The man – a former federal politician who was discharged in 2019, according to official sources told Télam – was transferred to the Alvear Hospital with a doctor and a psychiatrist, according to Crescenti.
Martín Cuzzolino, Fire Chief of the City, specified that personnel from the Special Rescue Group of that force and also from the Special Rescue Brigade (BEFER) of the Federal Police intervened and that, in addition to the crane, rescue mattresses were used. .
