With an industrial machine, which has the capacity to shred large and heavy caliber firearms, for 8 continuous hours, this morning the First Weapons Destruction Center of Panama was inaugurated, at the main headquarters of the National Police, located in Ancón .
According to the director of the National Police, John Dorheim, this center will allow them to save on human resources, electricity and equipment, in addition to the fact that this scrap metal generated by the destruction of this machine could be given some use.
The Weapons Destruction Center complies with international standards, especially with the Organization of American States, in terms of destruction processes in an orderly, effective and efficient manner and according to the authorities, it was built by the National Directorate of Engineering and Maintenance of the National Police. , under a transparent, technical and innovative process that allows with a special machine to achieve the destruction of these allowing recycling and reuse of waste because the weapons come from ferrous material.
During the inauguration of this Center, the sixth weapon destruction ceremony was also held, where 1,048 firearms of various calibers were destroyed.
At this ceremony, Dorheim said that so far this year they have destroyed over 5,000 firearms,
