Nicaragua’s deputy president, Rosario Murillo, highlighted the donation of refrigeration trucks to transport anti-COVID vaccines in the country, a contribution from the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).
Murillo reported that currently 86% of the population is vaccinated with the full schedule and 93% of the population with at least one dose. The government spokeswoman “profoundly” thanked the cooperation of the international institution.
“From the Minsa (Ministry of Health) they inform us that Unicef will donate two trucks with refrigeration equipment to transport vaccines to health units throughout Nicaragua,” said the deputy president without specifying the delivery date.

“This donation will be received at the National Biological Center (Cenabi) of the Minsa,” Murillo reported. Soon Nicaragua will also be receiving another donation from the United States with a batch of 1.4 million Pfizer pediatric vaccines.
This June 29, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reported that Nicaragua is among the three Central American countries “at the head” in the percentage of vaccination against COVID-19, exceeding 70% along with Costa Rica and Panama. . At the same time, he called to continue taking action and increase immunization due to significant increases in cases and deaths in the region.
“Looking at Central America, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama have gone beyond the 70% target and El Salvador is close to this target. We have to speed up the pace of vaccination to protect populations from the consequences of this virus,” said PAHO Director Carissa Etienne.

Recently, the Central American country received a donation of 657,540 doses of Pfizer vaccines from the United States through the Covax mechanism of the World Health Organization (WHO), which guarantees medicines to poor countries, explained the Ministry of Health (Minsa). The vaccines were received by the Minister of Health, Martha Reyes, who, on behalf of Daniel Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo, thanked the North American country.
The Nicaraguan minister stressed that the vaccines for adults donated by the US will come “to strengthen the National Vaccination Campaign and will be made available immediately to Nicaraguan families.”
