Madrid Spain.- The trial against the independent journalist and Cuban political prisoner Lázaro Yuri Valle Roca was concluded for sentencing this Tuesday in the Municipal Court of Marianao, in Havana.
As he told Radio Television Marti Eralidis Frómeta, activist and wife of the reporter, the Prosecutor’s Office asked Valle Roca for six years in prison for the crimes of ongoing enemy propaganda and resistance.
Frómeta explained that the trial, which took place with the “surroundings of the audience overflowing with police and State Security agents”, began at 10:30 in the morning and lasted until 6:00 in the afternoon.
The president of the court asked the prosecutor Sheila Montero to present evidence about her accusations, but Montero “did not manage to show a single piece of evidence to support the accusation that she made to Yuri that he was the leader of the demonstrations,” Frómeta explained.
Together with Lázaro Yuri Valle Roca they were judged and they received petitions for Alien Tijerino Castro sentence (five years in prison for “ongoing enemy propaganda”); Ruslán Hernández Reyes and Yusniel Milián González (three years in prison for “enemy propaganda”) and Ignacio Arias Martínez.
For Arias Martínez, his lawyer managed to file a request for a medical expert opinion and his trial was postponed for a new date.
“The lawyers made a very good defense. They all asked for immediate release for their clients”, stated Eralidis Frómeta.
The opponent also reported that during the trial her husband recalled two phrases by José Martí: “A man who hides what he thinks or does not dare to say what he thinks is not an honest man” and “Freedom is the right that everyone has.” man has to be honest, to think and speak without hypocrisy”.
According to the prosecution, Valle Roca and the rest of the defendants held meetings at the journalist’s house “to plan actions contrary to the current social and political system in Cuba, to be carried out in different places in the country’s capital, which they filmed and then published in the Facebook profiles and other social networks of its members, with the purpose of disseminating to the world an image of social and political instability within the country.”
Lázaro Yuri Valle Roca was arrested on June 15, 2021, one day after posting on social media images of the launch in Havana of leaflets with phrases by José Martí and Antonio Maceo demanding democratic reforms in Cuba.
After spending a brief period of time in the Zapata y C unit, the reporter was transferred to Villa Marista, the Cuban State Security headquarters. He is currently confined in the Combinado del Este.
