With 31 signatures, four more than the minimum of 27 required, opposition senators filed today (28), at the General Secretariat of the Senate’s Bureau, the request for the creation of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) to investigate in the House a alleged influence peddling scheme at the Ministry of Education (MEC).
Pressure for the installation of a CPI has increased in recent days in the face of suspicions of interference by President Jair Bolsonaro in investigations against former minister Milton Ribeiro who, last week, was arrested during the Operation Paid Accessfrom the Federal Police (PF), to get off the ground, the commission depends on the green light from the president of the House, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), who needs to read the request in the plenary of the House.
On social media, last Sunday, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Anderson Torres, said that he did not deal with the president about PF operations on a trip to the United States. “In the face of so much speculation about my trip to the US with President Bolsonaro, I categorically assure you that, at no time, we deal with PF operations. Absolutely none of this was the agenda of any conversation of ours, on that trip”.
According to the author of the request, Randolfe Randrigues (Rede – AP), there is a desire in the Senate that this “scandalous scheme” that has been installed in the MEC has a serious investigation. “Since last week, it has been known to all, in audio by Mr. Milton Ribeiro himself, that the President of the Republic clearly intervened to prevent the investigation from advancing, in a clear crime, according to the Penal Code, of obstruction to investigations and use of privileged information”, he justified.
THE Brazil Agency contacted the MEC and is awaiting a position on the matter.
