MIAMI, United States.- The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), said this Tuesday that whether they are from Cuba, the United States, France or wherever, his government will get doctors to have a complete and comprehensive health system .
According to a note from the Mexican newspaper The universalAMLO’s words took place during his morning press conference and after the criticism he has faced for hiring 500 Cuban specialists to fill vacancies in the Aztec country.
AMLO criticized in his appearance the little call that the last National Day of Recruitment of Physicians and Medical Specialists had, and gave Nayarit as an example, where of 475 positions for specialists there were only 32 interested doctors.
“Because we raised it (that there is a lack of specialists) and these conservative doctors linked to the laboratory mafias came out to say that it was not true that there was a lack of doctors. We made the call, we just finished. There is Nayarit. Check this out. After the call for the recruitment of medical specialists, the accreditation of 32 applicants was finalized, the lack of specialists is 443 specialists, ”he said.
For this reason, he added, “the agreement with the Cuban government. Oh, but also, ‘how are Cuban doctors going to come to displace Mexican doctors!’, as if health were not a universal human right. We are going to bring them from Cuba, and we are going to bring them from France and the United States, and wherever we can get them to have a complete, comprehensive health system,” he said.
At the beginning of last May, AMLO announced, after a visit to Cuba as part of an official tour of Central America, that his government had agreed with that of Miguel Díaz-Canel to hire 500 Cuban doctors due to the “deficit of specialists.” in the country.
Since then, criticism from opponents, academics and national health personnel has not ceased. The Mexicans also reject the agreement because they assure that the National Regeneration management will hire the doctors in order to finance the Cuban dictatorship with the salaries of the health personnel.
