Ledezma says he is committed to respecting "any ruling" regarding his detained son-in-law

Antonio Ledezma has confidence in the US and Spain in the performance of their judicial processes and in respect for due process. As in 2018, when Vuteff was arrested for the first time, he remains aloof from what happened

Former Mayor Antonio Ledezma spoke on Monday June 27 through his social networks about the arrest in Switzerland of his son-in-law, Luis Fernando Vuteff, of course money laundering and regretted that his daughter Antonietta, wife of the businessman, is going through this bad time and said that he hopes that the Justice will clarify what happened.

Ledezma expressed that his position is “the same that he has always put forward” regarding the issue, saying that he is demanding sanctions against those who have committed actions outside the law but without criticizing what is happening a priori. He hopes that due process will be respected in Vuteff’s case and that “the truth will come out” in the process.

He indicated that his son-in-law faced the case in Spain as it should be done and reiterates that “in the face of this new episode I maintain my firm determination, always unequivocal, consistent and transparent, to leave it in the hands of the magistrates in charge of that investigation, committed to respecting any ruling be dictated.”

He expressed confidence in the institutions of the US and Spain, as well as in their actions in accordance with the law and principles when justice is served.

Luis Fernando Vuteff, son-in-law of former mayor Antonio Ledezma, was arrested in Switzerland and faces an extradition request to the United States on charges of money laundering for his alleged participation in a corruption scheme that also involves Chavista businessmen Raúl Gorrín and Francisco Convit, El Nuevo Herald reported on Friday, June 24.

The US portal detailed that Vuteff is accused by US authorities of helping Venezuelan public officials and businessmen involved in Operation Money Flight to hide illicit income and facilitate access to those funds outside of Venezuela.

In October 2018, the Spanish Justice ordered preventive detention for the crime of money laundering against the former Venezuelan minister Nervis Villalobos and the businessman of Argentine origin Luis Fernando Vuteff

Villalobos was arrested on October 17 in Madrid along with three other people, including Vuteff.

At that time, Ledezma issued a statement to state that he did not know the details of the judicial process around his son-in-law and said that he is linked to that because he is the father of his daughter and said that “the prudent thing” is to wait for the decisions of the Spanish system, as well as to avoid speculation or extrapolate the cases.
